AJet has cancelled its winter flights between Gazipaşa–Alanya Airport and Ankara. The Alanya Tourism Promotion Foundation (ALTAV) announced the decision on 13 October: tickets for the winter flights had not gone on sale for several days, and when the foundation asked the airline about it, it was told the route was being closed. At the end of September ALTAV had said that three flights a week would be kept for the winter. According to Antalya MP Aykut Kaya, the break will last from the end of October to the end of March.
“We cannot accept that flights on this important route are being stopped,” said Alper Gencelli, board member and spokesperson of ALTAV. The foundation intends to push for the flights to return. Aykut Kaya raised the issue in parliament and asked the Ministry of Transport to step in. He said the route is used by around 600,000 residents of Gazipaşa, Alanya, Anamur, Bozyazı, Ermenek and Sarıveliler, and that the drive to Ankara takes five and a half to six hours. The MP suggested keeping at least two flights a week. A year ago AJet also dropped the route for the winter. From January to September 2026, 730,297 passengers passed through Gazipaşa–Alanya Airport.
A direct flight matters most to people who live in Alanya all year round. In September ALTAV listed students, patients, business owners and civil servants among them. Until the route is restored, travellers from Ankara will have to fly to Antalya in winter and continue by road. Mahmutlar and the neighbouring districts in the east of Alanya are closer to Gazipaşa Airport than to Antalya’s. That is why owners of flats built by a developer in Turkey in Mahmutlar feel the break more, especially residents of finished residential complexes.
